"A bike will give her new experiences we did not think were possible."
Zairanya T., 15, Columbus
Cerebral Palsy
Zairanya would love a bike. It will open up doors for her. She loves to do as other kids her age. It’ll make her feel like she can do what they are doing. It's been days she just sat in her wheelchair and pointed out the window like "Mommy look what they're doing!". At the same time, it will help with her legs. We are always trying to build up her strength and muscles. To me, this will be an eye-opener to her.
"Riding a bike is on battle in his life he will win."
Brantley S., 9, Johnstown
Autism, Severe Intellectual Developmental Disorder, Pica, ADHD
Seeing Brantley experience one of childhood's simplest pleasures — riding a bike — filled me with a mix of emotions. It's an experience I wasn't sure he would ever have.
Autism has presented challenges in nearly every aspect of Brantley’s life, but this is one battle Brantley will win.
Though almost four years have gone by since Brantley first requested a bike — one I'm certain he's eager to ride — I am determined to provide him with an adaptive bike that fits his needs much better than that first red bike he got all those years ago.
"This bike will allow him to access outdoor play with his peers."
Harrison W., 4, Westerville
Cerebral Palsy
If you know our son, then you know Harrison is pure joy and full of smiles and belly laughs! Harrison loves to be silly and make others laugh along with him. He knows he faces hardships and when he discovers he can overcome them, he beams with pride and joy. Harrison has cerebral palsy and autism which greatly impacts every aspect of his independence. Our goal, as his parents, is to give him every opportunity to enjoy just being a kid and joining in with family and friends. We are fundraising for a bike for Harrison to join in on bike rides with his sister Sloane, his neighborhood friends, his cousins, his peers on bike day, and for some strength building and exercise too! Equipment like this is expensive for kiddos like Harrison, so our hope is if we start collecting donations, Harrison will be able to enjoy this opportunity by his 6th birthday next March! Thank you for any contributions! It will certainly bring Harrison joy.
